Canton Public Library Collects Items For Troops

This Memorial Day weekend, remember the active US troops by participating in a supply drive, held May 29 at the Canton Public Library. The library will accept donations of bug repellent wipes, any size or brand, or new, unsharpened pencils, which will be packaged by the Michigan Military Moms and shipped to troops overseas.

The supply drive was the idea of library pages Laurie Conlen, mom of an Army lieutenant stationed in Afghanistan, and Linda Hampton, who lost a brother in the Vietnam War. They saw the power of the community's response to the library's diaper drive, which netted 17,000 diaper donations for the Detroit Area Diaper Bank, and suggested a drive for the troops.

The Canton Public Library is located at 1200 S. Canton Center Road, between Cherry Hill and Palmer Roads, in Canton and will be open 9:00AM to 6:00PM on May 29 to accept donations. Michigan Military Moms is a support group for moms with sons and daughters serving in the United States military.
