March is National Reading Month. This annual celebration is designed to encourage reading as a fun activity for the whole family. Various community organizations are helping us promote reading in fun ways. On March 4, the Plymouth Canton Preschool staff presented a storytime in honor of Dr. Seuss. Later in the month, Community Finanacial and the Kiwanis Club of Canton will be at the library to share their love of reading.

Come on in to help get your children started on a lifetime of reading!

Children, ages 6-11 with a caregiver, are invited to explore science with students from the University of Michigan Exhibit Museum of Natural History. The theme for this month's program is "Water Wisdom: Caring for Our Water Resources." Register online beginning Saturday, March 5. To celebrate "March is Reading Month," many Canton first graders visit the library with their classes. They'll see a puppet show, go on a tour and check out a book. For some kids it will be their first time ever to visit the library. We love our first graders.

United Way for Southeastern Michigan is creating successful adults, by kindergarten. Imagination Library provides free books for children from birth to age five. Benefits include:

• One free book each month mailed to the home, up to age 5
• A graduation book on the fifth birthday to help the transition into kindergarten
• Free newsletter, website and other learning material for parents

Thorndyke's Book Discussion — 2:00-2:45PM — Get together with other first and second graders to read and talk about a great book! You do not have to read the book before coming to the program.
Wild About Mo Willems — 7:00-7:45PM — If you love the Pigeon books, or have your own Knuffle Bunny, you will enjoy this night of fun with Mo Willems books. Kids ages 5-8 are invited to join in the fun.

All Ages Open Videogaming — 1:00PM-3:00PM — Children, tweens and teens can unleash your inner rock star or Wii athlete or enjoy some MarioKart racing during our all ages open video gaming day. No registration required.
Night in Narnia — 7:00-7:45PM — Kids, ages 8-11, set sail on the high seas as we celebrate the release of the Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

Join us on Monday, February 7, for a fun celebration beginning at 5:00PM with crafts presented by the Plymouth Canton African American Student Association followed by a choral presentation by the Voices of Praise Choir at 7:00PM. The African American Cultural Historical Musuem will host a visual art display throughout the night. Registration is not required.
