Gale Courses Begin April 15

Spring into learning something new!  Gale courses can teach you career skills, sign language, accounting software, and more!

The Canton Public Library offers free Gale Courses to its cardholders, and the next set of classes is will begin on Wednesday, April 15. Learn on your own schedule, and receive a certificate of completion when you've finished. Our goal is to provide lifelong educational opportunities for you to gain new skills or improve existing ones. Computer Skills Lab for Beginners - April 11

If you or someone you know needs assistance with basic computer skills, including Internet use and setting up an email account, please stop in to CPL's iLab between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 11 for our drop-in skills lab. We will have guided activities for practice with mouse skills, copying/pasting, and more.  A librarian will be on hand to answer any questions you may have or direct you to activities and tutorials to help build basic computer skills.

*This lab is restricted to basic computer skills, as listed above. Staff will not be able to assist with the diagnosis or repair of computer equipment, or with online financial transactions.

Announcements and Invitations with Publisher 2013

Looking for an easy but affordable way to create greetings or invitations to all your spring and summer functions (think graduations and showers)? Learn how MS Publisher can help you make them! We'll also talk about how you can use the Mail Merge function to print out personally addressed envelopes. Prerequisite: Some experience with MS Word and Excel.

Canton families rejoice! Hoopla has recently added dozens of Disney titles to its offerings. Enjoy classics like The Muppet Movie or The Black Cauldron without leaving your house. Download the Hoopla app to get started.

Hoopla offers movies, music, television and audiobooks on your smartphone, tablet or computer. Just use your Canton Public Library card to create an account, and get started today!

MS Office 2013 Coming to Public Computers April 1

MS Office 2013 is coming to public computers on Wednesday, April 1. 

If you use Canton Public Library's nearly 150 public computers for work, school or personal use come April, you may notice a change to our MS Office software. MS Office 2013 offers improved features and an updated look, but will still open all of the same file formats as the previous version of this software (MS Office 2010).
What is means for patrons: you will still be able to open your old files, and we hope you will enjoy the updated look of the software. You can visit GCFLearnFree.org or Microsoft Technet's to learn more about this software, or attend any of our MS Office computer classes, which as of April will feature the 2013 versions of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher.

Intermediate Excel 2010 - March 19

A more advanced Excel class, great for work or school projects. Learn custom sorting and conditional formatting to make sense of your data. Create eye-catching tables, charts and graphs. Prerequisite: Beginning Excel or previous experience with Excel.

New Service: Emergency Phone Chargers Coming Monday, March 2

The Canton Public Library knows that a dead phone battery can be a real inconvenience. Thanks to a generous donation from the Canton Sprint Storea small collection of charger cords will be available at the Main Information Desk for in-house use. 

To borrow a micro-USB cord, lightning cable or 30-pin cable, present your photo ID or library card to a librarian at the Information Desk. These cables can be used with USB ports throughout the library and are compatible with most modern smart phones and tablets, including Android and Apple products. 

The Canton Public Library is not responsible for damage to any patron device.
