Welcome to hoopla!

Hoopla Digital's cutting-edge technology makes available thousands of movies, music and audiobooks to the Canton Public Library patrons for their mobile and online access. Borrowing and returning items is quick and easy. Once the lending period has expired (3 days for movies, 7 days for music, and 21 days for audiobooks), titles are automatically removed from the patron's borrowed list and returned to the library. Open an account by visiting hoopladigital.com with your CPL card number, and start enjoying your media right away!

hoopla is coming to town!

What is hoopla? We are excited to bring you this multi-media platform that offers thousands of streaming and downloadable movies, music albums and audiobooks to the Canton community. Starting on December 18, Canton card holders can stream or temporarily download the media to their Apple or Android smartphones, tablets and computers after signing up with their email address, password, and CPL card number. All titles are available instantaneously, and there is never a wait to borrow. The automatic return feature removes the items after the loan period expires. Movies lend for 3 days, music albums for 7 days, and audiobooks for 21 days. Register for an account by visiting hoopla Digital on your computer, or using the hoopla app from the Apple app store or the Google Play store. Browse or search for a movie, music or audiobook to borrow. The borrowed title can be found under the My Titles tab for viewing/listening. Enjoy!

Irish Poet Seamus Heaney Dies

Seamus Heaney, often called the greatest Irish poet since Yeats, died on Friday in Dublin. Best known for his regional themes and sensibilities, Heaney was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1995. His translation of the Anglo-Saxon poem Beowulf (1999) from Old English won him popular and critical acclaims to win the Whitbread Award as the best book of 1999. Seamus Heaney was 74.

OverDrive Media Console V.3.0 is here!

OMC Version 3.0 for Android and iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch) is here. This release brings you many exciting and convenient features. If your Android device is running OS 4.0 or newer, your Apple devices are iOS 6 or newer, iPhone 3GS or newer, iPad 2 or newer, and iPod Touch 4th generation or newer, you can go to your app store to upgrade to OMC V.3.0. Older iPads can use OverDrive Read or Kindle app to read eBooks.

New OverDrive Media Console Coming Soon!

We are delighted to announce that a new version of OverDrive Media Console (OMC) for Android and iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch) is on its way. This release will include a new and improved interface design, enhancements such as syncing reading progress and bookmarks across multiple devices, and improved performance. OMC v3.0 will be available to Android and iOS users on August 20, 2013 and users will be prompted to install the new version.

Detroit Free Press Online

The Detroit Free Press is now accessible from home with your Canton Library card. You can search for news and obituaries in the paper from January, 1999 to present. Find this and other online papers such as the Canton Observer, Grand Rapids Press, Lansing State Journal, and New York Times listed on our Database page.

Back in time Word Search Game

This is the third game of our "Back in Time Word Search" series challenge. Throughout the course of six weeks, we feature three games. They focus on different aspects of going back in time. The Back in Time: Gadgets is for this week and the next (until July 30.) Pick one up from the Help Desk, and have fun figuring out the word puzzle. Return it to the Help Desk to earn yourself a chance for prize drawing!

Time Capsule Unearthed!

We have unearthed a time capsule containing artifacts from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. The capsule and all the items are on display in the library showcase! Use your keen eyesight, brain power, and research ability to answer questions related to these antiquated objects. Give yourself a chance to win a prize by returning the answer sheet to the Help Desk! The lucky winner will be notified.
