The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, James Gillig, at 7:35 p.m.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA

The agenda was approved as presented.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Minutes of the August 21st meeting were approved as submitted.

COMMUNICATIONS

  • Thank you to the Board from M. Coughlin acknowledging funeral arrangement received in memory of his mother.
  • Letter from Nationwide 457 Defined Contribution Plan giving assurances of their strength and viability in wake of recent financial concerns.

REPORT OF THE LIBRARY DIRECTOR

  • Eva reviewed the publicity packet provided by L. Golden noting the joint ad with Plymouth District Library targeting students – “Tackle Assignments @ Your Library”.
  • Eva attempted, without success, to contact Jungle Java regarding the resumption of the rent payments. She sent a letter detailing the agreement.
  • Canton Township Clerk, Terry Bennett, will attend the November 20th Board meeting to administer the oath of office to new board members. Cecil and Nancy are invited to attend.

OLD BUSINESS

  • Roof Replacement Update All punch list items have been completed and all warranties and lien waivers have been received. The final payment was approved by PSI and is being processed. The project was completed approximately $4,000 under budget.

NEW BUSINESS

  • Board Holiday Party - Discussion was held as to the venue of the party which will be The Traditions at Cambridge on Saturday, December 6, 2008. Nancy Williams volunteered to coordinate food and beverage which will be provided entirely by the Board this year. Sheryl will order and address the invitations.
  • Entry Door - The front entry doors have been malfunctioning and costs to repair them have reached approximately $4000 this year. The door opening mechanism is no longer made and parts are scarce. J. Laffey contacted Stanley and received quotes ranging from headers only to a full set of new entry doors. The doors are in good condition and we have decided to replace only the opening header mechanisms, which will be done on November 14th when the library is closed for staff in-service.
