Going Bovine Book Club Selection
I have the pleasure of working with a fantastic group of young adults at the Starkweather Alternative High School. The Canton Public Library in cooperation with Starkweather was awarded an ALA Great Stories Club Grant last year. The book club was such a success last year we decided to continue meeting. We are currently reading Going Bovine by Libba Bray. We have just started, but I suspect it will be a favorite. If you haven't read this book, I suggest you do!

Is the Book You're Reading Award-Worthy?
The Thumbs Up! Award is given annually by Michigan Library Association teen services librarians to an author for outstanding contribution to teen literature having both literary quality and teen appeal. The book must appeal to teens, both in respect to its characters and setting, as well as in terms of subject and theme.
Additional criteria for the award:
- Books must be original works commercially published in the U.S. during 2010 (January 1st-December 31st)
- Books originally published outside the U.S. are eligible if their first U.S. printing occurred during this same time period
- Books may be hardcover or original paperback, fiction or nonfiction
- Authors may include co-authors or editor(s)

Love Video Games?
Have you ever considered a career in video games? Maybe writing game scripts is your calling. 26 year old Jeffrey Yohalem talks about being the head writer for Assassin's Creed Brotherhood in this article. When Yohalem approached Jordan Mechner (writer for The Prince of Persia) about what classes to take to pursue a career in game script writing, he suggested screen writing and architecture. Who would have guessed?!

A Great Group Makes For A Great Book Club
I have the pleasure of working with a fantastic group of young adults at the Starkweather Alternative High School. A Must Read For Zombie Lovers
If you love zombies, and you haven't read The Forest of Hands and Teeth, it is a must. The main character, Mary, wonders what lies beyond the forest. The problem is, the forest is filled with the Unconsecrated, aggressive flesh-eating people who were once dead. Have you already read this book and want more of the Unconsecrated? The companion book, The Dead Tossed Waves, is also a great read!

Video Games Actually Lead To Workplace Success
A new study from the University of Colorado Denver Business School has determined that employees who are trained on video game software are much more likely to retain the information they had learned. However, it was found that not all video games were equally as good when it comes to training. Video games with active participation were more effective then games with a more passive theme. Who says games are only for children?
