Read a "Classic"
I read To Kill a Mockingbird again. I could read it another hundred times, but I'm going to have to buy a new copy, because mine has completely fallen apart! I've always enjoyed this story, told through the voice of a young girl in the south, about how her lawyer father defends a black man accused of a heinous crime against a white woman. A great book about empathy.
Baby Boy read a book about all the different places and times you can read. He did a great job turning the pages of Baby Bear's Books by Jane Yolen. He actually paused for a moment to point to one of the bears before returning to his manic page-turning.

Took in some Local Culture
Volunteered at the Canton Historical Museum on Saturday. The main exhibit features Canton's farming culture.

Traveled back in time at Greenfield Village
Even the 18th century baby-minder couldn't keep me still enough to prevent a blurry picture! We visited the Daggett Farmhouse at Greenfield Village, an 18th century farmhouse where they demonstrate what life was like over 250 years ago.

Read The Sisters Brothers
The title is a little confusing, but the story is straightforward. Two brothers, hired hitmen, have one final job to perform. Set during the California Gold Rush, Eli and Charlie Sisters are two men to be reckoned with. Eli narrates their journey as they pursue one last target, a man who has discovered a way to speed up the search for gold and make it far more profitable.
Really enjoyed the story, but the ending of The Sisters Brothers left me a little flat.
As a family, we went camping at Van Buren State Park for a weekend. It was truly an adventure with our 10-month-old Baby Boy, but he did great and had a fabulous time splashing in Lake Michigan.

DSO Concert
Went to a DSO concert where they featured Hollywood blockbusters.
Would like to check out some of CPL's music collection that features DSO performers, too.

Read a Few Good Biographies
I watched the movie Gypsy, and then read American Rose about the life of Gypsy Rose Lee. Her mother dreamed big, and Gypsy lived out those dreams.
Our Eleanor by Candace Fleming: I learned a ton about Eleanor Roosevelt, the Great Depression and World War II. Loved the scrapbook set-up of the book. Eleanor dreamed of a better society for everyone.

Went to the Detroit Zoo

It was a hot day, so most of the animals at the Zoo were sleeping, but the highlights were the penguins, seals, giraffes and rhinos. Had a great time!
Baby Boy read Penguins, Penguins, Everywhere! about (you guessed it!) penguins.
Mama is working on The Tower, the Zoo and the Tortoise about one of the live-in tour guides for the Tower of London. So far lots of fun bits about history and a little bit about animals.
