Robotics Information Session

Parents and kids grades 4-8 (for 2014-15) are welcome and encouraged to attend an information and demonstration session about FIRST LEGO League and FIRST Tech Challenge. East Middle School robotics teams and student built robots will be available for demonstration.

FIRST – For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, is designed to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders. It combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology.

Come and learn how you can participate in these FIRST fun and educational activities.

Movie Madness: The Lego Movie

Start your summer break off right with a viewing of The Lego Movie! On Tuesday June 17 starting at 2:00PM watch as Emmett Brickowski and his rag tag group of Lego friends find their creativity and battle the evil Lord Business.
You may bring pillows, snacks, even your own comfy lawn chairs if you like. And remember...Everything is AWESOME!

Summer Storytime @ Canton Farmers Market

We are thrilled to be back at the Canton Farmers Market this year.  The Canton Farmers Market is a celebration of locally grown food, delicious food vendors and a thriving community spirit.  It takes place every Sunday through the summer at Preservation Park.  Join us at the market on the following Sundays for summer storytimes and activities:

hoopla Hoop - Hula Hoop Contest

Come and put your hula -hoop skills to the test! We are hosting a contest to celebrate hoopla, a multi-media platform that offers thousands of streaming and downloadable movies, music albums and audiobooks to the Canton community. The individual that hula-hoops the longest will walk away with a new android tablet, perfect for using hoopla! Staff will also be on hand to explain this awesome service in detail and help you set up an account! Contest participants are encouraged to bring their own hula - hoops if possible.  Join us Monday, June 23 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM.

Tanabata Festival


Join us July 19th as wecelebrate Tanabata, a Japanese Star Festival. This festival celebrates theonce-a-year meeting of star lovers, the Ox Herder and the Weaver Princess, whoare separated by the Milky Way during the other 364 days of the year.

To help us celebrate, members of the JapanSociety of Detroit Women's Club will present the Tanabata story using Kamishibai, a Japanese form ofstorytelling. We will also participate in the Tanabata custom of writing wisheson long strips of colorful paper and then tying them to tree branches in thehopes that they will come true. In addition children will have the opportunityto try on Yukatas or summer kimonos.

This event will take place Saturday July 19th at 11:00 am.
