Guess What? My birthday is January 16th — this Saturday!!! Ironically, it happens to fall just before Storytime Teddy Bear week (by the way kids — don't forget to bring your teddy bears to Storytime next week!). I share my birthday month with some very cool people who also work at the library. And I even share a Birthday with Brad the Teen Librarian! If you are a human and you work at the library, you get the day off for your birthday. But since I live here, I get to celebrate my Birthday with all of you! Make sure you come and sing! I even accept gifts. I like cookies. After the library closes on Saturday, me and LB (remember him? My Little Buddy that Santa brought?) are going to eat cake. Honey flavored cake. Yum. I can't wait until Saturday. Happy Birthday to me....
Knitting with handspun yarn is a treat, but it's also quite different from knitting with machine-spun yarn. It's not necessarily consistent in texture and thickness and it often surprises you as it knits up. The patterns offered here are perfectly suited to handspun and are, as the title says, small, which is also perfect as you often only have a limited amount of handspun in any given colorway.

Three Days Before the Shooting . . by Ralph Ellison - At his death in 1994, Ralph Ellison left behind roughly two thousand pages of his unfinished second novel, which he had spent nearly four decades writing. Long awaited, it was to have been the work Ellison intended to follow his masterpiece, Invisible Man...
The Unnamed by Joshua Ferris - In a radical departure from his satiric workplace comedy, Then We Came to the End (2007), Ferris turns in a dark and utterly compelling second novel on the insanity of modern life... [BookList Review]
Monsieur Pain by Roberto Bolaño - To drag fiction toward the unknown, [Bolaño] had to go there himself, and there invent a method with which to represent it. Since the unknown place was reality, the results are multi-dimensional. [The New York Review of Books]

Fairy tales are the source of so much pleasure, wonder, and imaginative play for children, and the patterns contained here are fanciful without sacrificing wearability. From the Snow Queen to Robin Hood to magic carpets, these projects explore classic fairy tale characters that are staples of playing dress-up. The garments are for the most part versatile enough for everyday wear as well, which will delight everyone who sees them.

SANTA CAME!!!! And you know what? He brought me a little buddy! Which is, in fact, what his name is! Little Buddy, or LB for short. I've been having so much fun with my new friend! Now I have someone that I can play games with when the library is closed! The best part is that LB is travel-sized. That means that he can sneak into people's suitcases and go on vacation with them. I never get to go anywhere, so I am excited to see where LB ends up going!
I hope you and yours had a nice holiday too. Did you get anything? What did you do? Can't wait to hear all about it! Until next time!
P.S. Here's a picture of LB! Better get used to him, because you might be seeing him a lot!
