Thanksgiving Crafts

Thanksgiving is on November 24th this year. Have you made your crafts yet? If not, there is still plenty of time. Check out the Thanksgiving craft books we have here at the library for inspiration and direction. Have fun! Gobble, gobble!

Ten Little Caterpillars

Ten little caterpillars by Bill Martin Jr. ; illustrated by Lois Ehlert — Bill Martin, Jr's posthumous work, originally published in 1967, brings to life the adventures of 10 caterpillars as they visit flower gardens, vegetable patches, and apple orchards, all before transforming into beautiful butterflies. This rhyming text is fun for all ages, and the beautiful artwork of Lois Ehlert is spectacular.

Welcome to the J600-699 Collection

What kind of dog do you wish you had? How fast does a Corvette really go? What does the inside of the human body look like? If you have ever asked yourselves these questions and more, then you should definitely visit the J600-699 collection in the Children's Section. This is the nonfiction collection that is chock full of cats, cars, pets, cooking, gardening, health, body parts, and so much more. See you in the stacks!

As the Page Turns

Children ages 4-8, with a caregiver, are invited to share a storytime with an international flavor. Staff from the bookstore As the Page Turns will present stories in a foreign language.
Program Date: November 8, 7:00-7:30 PM

Rainforest Adventure

Have you always wondered what it would be like to live in a rainforest? Here's your chance. Children ages 4-9 with their caregivers can enjoy an enchanting rainforest tale, learn about the rainforest and who lives there, enjoy a snack and make a craft. Registration begins October 31, 2011.

Funded by the Target Store Early Childhood Reading Grant and the Friends of the Canton Public Library.

Child Identification Event

Stop by the Community Room on December 1st from 5:30 to 8:30 PM for a special identification event sponsored by New York Life. The free ID cards for kids will include a photo, digital fingerprints and other vital information. Should there ever be an Amber Alert, this card is a first step in finding missing children.

ABC Activity Time

ABC Activity Time is an informal session where parents, caregivers, children and babies meet together in a relaxed environment. This drop-in playtime includes sensory activities, puzzles, and matching games for children ages birth to 5, with caregiver. No registration required. The library is closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25. We will not have ABC Activity Time on those days. Program Dates and Times (November 14-December 17):
  • Mondays-Saturdays, 10:30-11:00 AM
  • Mondays, 1:30-2:00 PM
  • Tuesday and Wednesday, 7:30-8:00 PM

Family Storytime

Family Storytimes begin the week of November 14. These storytimes are designed for childrens ages 5 and under with a caregiver. Storytimes are held in the Community Room and do not require registration. The library is closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25. We will not have Family Storytime on those days.

Lunch Lady and the League of Librarians

Lunch Lady and the league of librarians by Jarrett J. Krosoczka — Do you ever wonder what your school lunch lady does when she isn't serving you food? Is it possible she has a secret identity? Check out this book for a hilarious look at the secret crime fighting deeds of Lunch Lady and her trusty side-kick, Betty. Enjoy!

How Does This Work?

Hey Kids! Are you curious about your bones and muscles? How does all those things connect in our bodies? What is a healthy snack? Join us for our How Does This Work program. It takes place on Monday, October 17, 2011 from 7:00 to 7:45 PM. Program is open to children ages 5-9 with a caregiver! Registration begins Monday, October 3, 2011.

A Dazzling Display of Dogs

A dazzling display of dogs : concrete poems by Betsy Franco ; illustrations by Michael Wertz — Do you love dogs? How about poetry? This book combines both of those fun items. With fun colorful illustrations, you can have fun reading her concrete poems aloud or to yourself. Some of the poem titles include Found at the Pound, Pug Appeal, Emmett's Ode to His Tennis Ball, and The Tail End. Happy reading!

ZooZical a Musical Story

Have you ever wondered what zoo animals do when the visitors go home? Do they go to sleep, eat lots of food, play games? Well the zoo animals of ZooZical decide to put on a musical after all their visitors go home. In their musical, they sing some classic songs, but in a new, zooified way. Check out ZooZical, and enjoy they amazing talents of the giraffes, lions, kangaroos and one very special hippo.
