Give a sunshiney, warm welcome to Gustafer Yellowgold! A friendly creature who came to Earth from the sun, Gustafer is living out an explorer’s life in a slightly psychedelic version of the Minnesota woods with a sensitive Dragon, fashionista Pterodactyl, his best friend the Eel, among many others.  The Rock Melon Tour is a multi-media performance of live music, animated illustrations and storytelling presented by its creator, Morgan Taylor.

1:00-3:00 - The Incredibles (PG). A family of undercover superheroes, while trying to live the quiet suburban life, are forced into action to save the world.

Are you a creative kid? This program is tailored to kids who are 7 to 10 years old. Let your creative side flow in our monthly crafting program, Creatapillars. Our project for February will be working with salt dough. We will meet on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Registration will begin Friday, January 25. See you there!

Starting on January 14, there will be a number of exciting changes to our Storytime roster! We will continue to offer Family Storytimes, add a second Baby Storytime, and unveil our Preschool Storytime sessions. Please read the information below to determine where your child will have the most fun, then follow the links to additional information about objectives and guidelines to create the best experience for your child.

Baby Storytime

Baby Storytime is intended for children who are 18 months and younger. An adult must accompany the baby to storytime which lasts approximately 30 minutes.

Family Storytime

Family Storytime is intended for children who are 5 and younger. An adult must accompany the child to storytime which lasts approximately 30 minutes.

Preschool Storytime

Preschool Storytime is intended for children who are 3 to 5 years old. We encourage independence in the preschool storytime; children are welcome to attend this session without their caregiver. Caregivers must stay in the Children’s Library while the storytime takes place. If their caregiver decides to attend the session they are expected to take part in the storytime activities. Each Preschool Storytime session lasts approximately 30 minutes.

All structured storytime sessions will be followed by a 30 minute open ABC Activity Time.

Kids in grades 1-4, join us for Snack Tales on Saturday, January 26 from 2:00-2:45 PM. You will get a chance to listen to some great stories and cook up a tasty snack. Registration begins December 26. Please indicate any food allergies when registering.

Kids and Tweens in grades K-6, improve your reading skills and make a new friend by reading to aloud to a dog. Sign up begins at 6:25 PM and is on first come, first serve basis. Sessions are 10 minutes long.

Family Storytimes begin the week of January 14. These storytimes are designed for children ages 5 and under with a caregiver. Storytimes are held in the Community Room and do not require registration. Saturday sessions are in the Purple Room.

Come join the staff of Premier Athletics: Little Explorers as they jump and tumble, dance and sing.  This program incorporates music and games to inspire children to learn and grow both mentally and physically.  Caregivers and their children aged two to five are encouraged to check it out for themselves on Tuesday, December 18 at either 10:00 AM or 2:00 PM.  Please only attend one session. 

On Thursday, December 27 from 1:00-3:00 PM, we will be converting the Purple Room into a fun, drop-in, do-it-yourself craft space. Come in and get your creation on!

The Wayne State University School of Library and Information Science Alumni are partnering with Hip Hop Knit Shop and Children's Hospital of Michigan to bring sick kids books, toys and stories and both the Canton and Plymouth Libraries are drop-off points. Starting November 1 through December 12, we will be collecting books and toys, telling stories, navigating art carts and knitting blankets for the kids at Children's Hospital. Join us as we help to make kids feel better this holiday season!

On Wednesday, November 7 from 7:00-7:45 PM, Thirupu Siva will teach young people from 6-16 years of age the basic asanas, building up to various intermediate poses.  Please wear loose fitted clothing and bring a towel or yoga mat to work on.  Registration for this program begins on October 25.

ABC Activity Time will begin November 12. This is an informal session where parents, caregivers, children and babies meet together in a relaxed environment. This drop-in playtime includes sensory activities, puzzles, and matching games for children ages birth to 5, with caregiver. No registration required. Program takes place in the Community Room, unless otherwise noted.

Local Author Gordon Briley will talk to us about his inspiration and writing process for creating the rhyming picture book The Adventures of Lily and Ava. Attendees will get a look at the book and be able to ask the author any questions they have about the how to write a book.  Families are invited to join us on Sunday, November 4 at 2:00 PM for this fun program. Books will be available for purchase and signing by the author.
