Baby Storytime

Designed for babies up to 18 months old with a caregiver, Baby Storytime features simple stories, songs, and fingerplays. Baby Storytime sessions are held in the Purple Room.

Session begins Tuesday, January 7, 10:00 AM.

Due to renovations the library will be closed on Tuesday, February 4. Therefore there will be no Baby Storytime on that day. Baby storytime will resume on February 11 in the Community Room.

Family Storytime

Family Storytimes begin the week of January 6. These storytimes are designed for children ages 5 and under with a caregiver, and do not require registration. Weekday sessions are held in the Community Room. Saturday sessions are in the Purple Room.

Drop-in Family Storytimes, January 6-February 15:


Due to library renovations we will be closed on February 3 and 4. Therefore there will be no storytime on these days. Storytimes will resume on February 5. Saturday Family Storytimes will be held in the Community Room.

Dance Your Fanny Off

Families with young children can join us to dance out the old year. This freestyle dance party for our littlest patrons gets everyone movin' and groovin' to some great dance tunes.

This program is for new walkers up to 5 years old with their caregivers.

Hummingbirds Music Together: Holiday Music Celebration

On Wednesday December 18 from 10:00-10:45 AM, you and your child, babies-5 years old, will help bring the holidays to life with music and dance as we ring in the season with music from The Nutcracker, as well as other musical classics that are part of winter holiday celebrations across the world. Music Together is an internationally recognized early childhood music program for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, kindergarteners, and the adults who love them. This program will be presented by staff from the Grosse Pointe Music Academy of Canton.

A Holiday in the Islands Concert

Looking forward to the holidays, but already weary of the cold? We have the solution and something for everyone. Enjoy the amazing Gratitude Steel Band as they present "A Holiday in the Islands Concert" on Sunday, December 15 at 2 PM. Chaz and his band, a product of Trinidad and Tobago, will perform fun music celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanza. You won't be able to sit still through this upbeat performance.

ABC Activity Time

ABC Activity Time will begin Monday, November 11. This is an informal session where parents, caregivers, children and babies meet together in a relaxed environment. This drop-in playtime includes sensory activities, puzzles, and matching games for children ages birth to 5, with caregiver. No registration required. Program takes place in the Community Room, unless otherwise noted.

Monster Mash Masquerade

Families with young children can get dressed in their most comfortable costumes and get your dance on! This program is an open dance party for our littlest patrons to get movin' and groovin' with their grownups to some great spooky tunes. After we've danced the monsters away, be ready for a Halloweeny trick-or-treat through the library!

Designed for new walkers up to 5 years old, dancing is a great way to have some fun!

Family Portrait Craft

What does your family look like? Craft a portrait of your family for display on our Family Wall of Fame as we celebrate all of Canton's families. Join us on October 24 from 7:00-8:00 PM. All ages encouraged to attend.

Best in Show Dog Show 2013

Best in Show LogoWho will be Canton's Top Dog? Why not yours? Register now by returning the waiver form by 6 PM September 13 and join us on Saturday, September 14 at 11 AM in back of the library under the tent. Space for contestants is limited to the first 25 waivers received but all are welcome to come see the show. This event is fun for all ages! Bring your four-legged best friends and show them off in our contests for: Best Costume, Best Trick, Best Behaved, Best Looking, Best Biggest, Best Smallest and Best in Show. Winners will receive fabulous prizes! Enjoy a free hot dog and pop! REGISTRATION OPENS 9 AM Saturday August 31.

* Wednesday evening sessions will be PJ Family Storytime. Kids are welcome to attend in their PJs and will enjoy quieter stories, activities and music to calm them into bedtime. There will be no ABC Activity time following this storytime.

Listen @ the Library

The Chamber Music Society of Detroit presents the first in a series of music presentations at the Canton Public Library. The goal of the Society is to "strengthen families through musical outreach in the heart of the community." We will be treated to delightful chamber music performed by very talented musicians. The performance will include interactive demonstrations and lecture which will engage and entertain the audience of all ages. This presentation will be given by Stephen Wogaman, a pianist with the group. Stephen has been a part of the Allentown Symphony Orchestra and Canton (Ohio) Symphony Orchestra and has his doctorate in music from Indiana University School of Music.

Please bring the entire family for an amazing afternoon of memorable music on Saturday, September 21 at 3:00 PM in our Community Room.

Celebrate Go Outdoors Month All Summer Long

You can celebrate Get Outdoors Month all summer long. The official celebration takes place in June, but you can find activities to celebrate going outdoors throughout our Connect Your Summer experience. Use library materials to learn a new outdoor sport, plan an outdoor adventure, or just to find a great book to take outside. Share your experience to earn a badge.

During the month of June, check out our Great Outdoors Month display in the Tween Scene (pictured).

Get Your Game On with Dewey

If you're into browsing, try using the Dewey Decimal System to find a book for your Game On badge. For nonfiction sporting selections, in both the Adult and Children's Departments, check the 796s for sport books. Use our endcaps to find the right number. Discover a good-looking read, and then share your thoughts after you've read it to earn your Game On badge.
