Free, Chris Anderson's new book about the future of content distribution, is causing quite a stir.

Malcolm Gladwell started the debate with a lengthy review criticizing many of Anderson's analogies for how scarcity and abundance operate in a market economy. Seth Godin then responded with a few choice rebuttals, sure to spark further discussion.

Along with this, Waldo Jaquith levies allegations that the book contains overt plagiarism. Anderson himself has responded in kind to the blog post, and it appears some additional notes will be available to coincide with the book's release.

While some of this buzz may be viral marketing, the subject matter still sounds quite interesting. Free will be available for sale in stores July 7, though you can put it on hold at Canton Public Library today.

Resume Development, July 16, 10:00AM-Noon. An excellent resume is a marketing document that is well written, attractive, interesting, appropriately formatted, has a professional quality, and contains no inaccurate or misleading information. Guidelines and worksheets will be provided to help you develop that marketing document. Current issues for job seekers, cover letters, and the Internet will be discussed.

Interview Strategies, July 29, 10 a.m.–noon. Getting that interview is the culmination of your job search efforts. Interviews not only include that face-to-face time with your potential employer but could include personality, knowledge, and behavioral assessments. This workshop will cover information about the types of interviews, the importance of preparation, and questions you can expect (and you should ask).

Speed Interview Practice Session, August 13, 7-9 p.m. Get real life practice answering interview questions in this round-robin style format. As a prerequisite, you must attend the Resume Development and/or Interview Strategies class.

In today's Detroit News/Free Press, it's that time of year when colleges in the state are considering how much to raise their tuition for the upcoming fall semester. There's less government aid for schools so families are faced with paying more and doing less. The Library has the latest financial aid books to help students find funding sources such as Get Free Cash for College.

Peter Paul Rubens was born on June 28, 1577. He is best known as an influential Flemish painter during the Baroque era. You make think Rubens conjures up images of sandwiches and lunch, but actually, the artist was famous for painting Counter-Reformation altarpieces, portraits, landscapes, and history paintings of mythological and allegorical subjects. His paintings are full of action and movement as the subjects are rendered in vivid colors and in interesting poses. The current popularity of the "Twilight" series of books and movies have made the Vampire yet again a media darling. Let's face it though, the sun-sparkling, non-people eating vampires of "Twilight" were designed for a certain audience, those looking for a romance story.

If you like your vampire stories with (if you'll pardon the pun) "more bite," more moral ambiguity, and a lot less teen angst, you'll want to try Charlie Huston's series of Joe Pitt Casebooks. The Joe Pitt series takes place in a Manhattan that's been secretly divided by rival vampire gangs with different philosophical viewpoints on the world and the vampire's place in it.

In 1988 Director John McTiernan and writers Jeb Stuart and Steven E. de Souza revolutionized the action movie with "Die Hard". The film starring Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman introduced movie goers to John McClane, a charismatic New York City Cop who was different than your typical action movie hero because he was very human and had a sharp sense of humor.

It's hard to believe that it's been almost 50 years since the publication of Marvel Comics' "Amazing Fantasy" #15. In that single issue writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko debuted a creation that would go on to become one of the most recognizable and popular pop-culture characters in the world, the Amazing Spider-Man.

Since his debut all those years ago Spidey has experienced many milestones and on July 15 sees the debut of the biggest publishing event in the character's history, "Amazing Spider-Man" #600. It's a giant sized 104 page issue featuring all new content by the current creative team and even Spidey's creator Stan Lee!

The world-renowned Michigan Elvisfest began in 2000 in Ypsilanti, Michigan's historic Depot Town. Riverside Park is the place where Elvis fans flock by the thousands every July to pay homage to the King of Rock'n'Roll and to hear the most award-winning professional Elvis Tribute Artists in North America, as well as other talented Legend Tribute Artists

So come to Riverside Park on the banks of the Huron River on Friday, July 10th. (5 PM to Midnight:$15.00*) and Saturday, July 11th. (Noon to Midnight:$20.00*). Children 12 and under are admitted free.
